Mandate of the Investigations and Enforcement Department
The Investigations and Enforcement Department is responsible for investigating non-compliance with the National Credit Act and taking the necessary enforcement action where necessary. The Department consist of inspectors who conduct research, audits and investigations and Legal Advisors who assess and enforce investigation findings by referring matters to the National Consumer Tribunal, issuing compliance notices, non-referrals or instruction letters to address non-compliance.
The Department strives to bring about compliance with the National Credit Act and works closely with the Hawks and South African Police Services in conducting raids across the country in order to identify and protect the public against unscrupulous, fraudulent credit schemes, unregistered credit providers and credit providers who retains consumer’s instruments such as identity documents, bank cards, SASSA cards and bank pins.
