Consumer Credit Market Report - First Quarter | March 2010

The total value of new credit granted decreased from R63.30 billion for the quarter ended December 2009 to R61.55 billion for the quarter ended March 2010, a decrease of 2.76% compared to the previous quarter, but 19.04% higher than a year ago.



Consumer Credit Report - Fourth Quarter | December 2009

Credit granted to consumers increased by R9.71 billion to R63.30 billion for the December 2009 quarter. This represented a significant growth of 18.13% when compared to the previous quarter. This was the strongest rate of growth in credit granted since the NCR started publishing consumer credit statistics. Mortgages and secured credit contributed 69.58% of the total quarter-on-quarter growth in credit granted.



Consumer Credit Report - Third Quarter | September 2009

The value of total consumer credit granted has shown positive growth of 5.51% from R50.92 billion for the quarter ended June 2009 to R53.73 billion for the quarter ended September 2009. This is the first increase in quarterly credit extension since December 2007.
