Media Release - March 2017

The National Credit Regulator (NCR) has conducted a raid on Nian Shun Trading in Theunissen, Free State yesterday after receiving complaints from consumers about the practices of the credit provider.

“This led to the arrest of one (1) individual, who was found to be in possession of 33 ID books and 40 bank cards and 134 SASSA, Easypay and Free State Pension cards”, says Jacqueline Peters, Manager: Investigations & Enforcement at the NCR.

Peters says that credit providers commit a criminal offence when retaining pension cards, bank cards, identity documents and personal identity numbers (PIN) of their clients as debt collection instruments.

“We urge consumers who have handed their ID Books or bank and pension cards to this credit provider to report to the Theunissen police station to collect their instruments,” she concluded.
